Once it is confirmed by the NMC that you meet the minimum educational and practice standard, you will need to undertake all or a part of the Overseas Nurse Program or you will have to take an adaptation program.

The Overseas Nurse Program is a 20 day protected learning time, which needs to be completed in an approved educational institution in the UK. It has been set up in order to ensure consistency in preparing all application for the UK registration.

You can find the appropriate training centers on the following website: http://www.nmc-uk.org/

IELTS_images.jpgIELTs is designed to assess the language ability of candidates, who wish to work in the UK. Your English will be tested in various areas and you will have to reach a specific mark in order to obtain a certificate. Further information about IELTS can be obtained from: http://www.ielts.org/

What do I need to qualify for entry to an Overseas Nurse Program?
You will need to provide the following documents:

Original NMC assessment letter (you will receive this after your initial registration with the NMC provided your training as a nurse is equivalent to the UK)

Original IELTS certificate

Appropriate immigration visa

The registration for overseas candidates can be a long-winded and time-consuming process. To avoid any delays, we strongly advise to send all documents either by registered post or private courier.

This allows an efficient tracing of documents in case of loss. We also advise that you keep copies of all documents as a safeguard. If you should already have a NMC Pin number, please let us know and we can start looking for your new employment.

If you are an overseas candidate applying to work in the UK, please also verify whether you will be eligible to receive a work permit. The work permit will be applied for by your employer, once you have been offered a position.
The UK has gone through some rigorous changes during the last year and some nationals may no longer receive a work permit. Please find further information on the following website:
www.workingintheuk.gov.uk
As a non EU / EEA candidate, you will also need to inquire about your Visa requirements.

All overseas candidates need a visa from the British High Commission where the applicant is residing in, before they are entitled to enter the UK.
