Chair- Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
POSITION PURPOSE: To lead, direct and manage the clinical, technical and operational aspects of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: American Specialty Board or equivalent in accordance with HAAD Table of Equivalency, in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Experience: * NLT 3 years ,for tier 1, and NLT 8 years for tier 2, clinical experience post certification in appropriate specialty, in an active, acute care accredited institution or equivalent * NLT 2 years in same country of qualification and/ or western accredited hospital, (UAE National Not Applicable)
Licensure: A Current National License.
Certification and other requirements: * Leadership capabilities and interpersonal skills * Communications skills * Education/Research Experience/Publications * A degree in health care administration or quality management is desirable
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Full range of motion. Use of computers.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS
1. Policies, Procedures and Practices • Consistently complies with SKMC policies, procedures and practices. • Ensures that the department policies and procedures are aligned with the corporate SKMC policies. • Ensures that all the departmental policies and procedures are complete and current.
2. Regulatory Requirements • Completes and maintains all regulatory requirements including: licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames. • Ascertains that the department is in compliance with local HAAD & SEHA regulations and accreditation requirement.
3. Provide leadership and direction for the department & service • Act as a team leader of the department • Ensure that there are adequate programs to meet the clinical needs of the hospital • Recommend service expansion or enhancement in line with the over all mission and vision of the hospital • Conduct and chair regular department meetings
4. Manage the clinical, technical and operational aspects of the department • Plan and develop policies that guide the delivery of clinical service • Provide recommendations on space required for the service • Make recommendations regarding staff qualifications, staff privileges, staff numbers and staff planning • Make recommendations on equipment and other resources required for the service
5. Strategic planning & annual budgetary and capital submission • Participate in the development and approval of the department strategic plan, annual budget and capital requirements • Ensure that the strategic plan of the department is aligned with that of the hospital.
6. Monitor the department’s performance as well as staff performance • Develop and implement a quality management and monitoring system in collaboration with the department manager/s, quality officer/s and senior supervisors • Monitor service and staff performance • Oversee the quality of patient care • Conduct annual appraisal of all staff in the department
7. Foster communication & ethical practices • Support good, professional communication between stake-holders both inside and outside the department • Support ethical and professional practice
8. Supports education and research • Maintains an active CME programme • Promotes and encourages research activities • Facilitates staff development and training
9. Maintaining a safe working environment • Ensure that the work environment meets acceptable, approved safety standards. • Prepare and organize an emergency response plan.
About the SKMC
